My TEN YEAR Reunion

I spent the weekend in Nebraska with my high school classmates at our ten year reunion. TEN YEARS. What?!

Growing up in a small town, and most of us being together from day one, we became a little family of our own. You spend day after day together and learn so much about each other. You experience all the awkward changes and growth. And you become each other’s cheerleaders, tutors, and comforters. Not all classes are that way but ours was one of the lucky ones.

It was probably the most chill class reunion ever held, but that’s kinda just the Nebraska life. It was glorious to sit around the bonfire at one of their farms, looking out over the rolling hills of cornfields. (Ozark Mountain sunsets are gorgeous, but there’s just something about a good ol’ Nebraska sunset that relaxes the soul!)

I was so thrilled to see every single person there. I ran toward them with open arms, tearing up. All night, I kept looking around the circle, and I couldn’t help but smile. So much life was had with these people, and I had so much love for each of them. To be together, in one place at one time, had my heart jumping for joy.

We caught up on life. We reminisced. We laughed so hard.

Most of them, I hadn’t seen in probably five years. It doesn’t seem possible, but it’s true.

Life happens. Time passes, circumstances change. And while you’re out there working, chasing your dreams, and building your life, it’s as if you blink and suddenly months, or even years, have passed. I’m sure glad that we can go years without talking and pick up right where we left off!

I’m so proud of the people they have become and gosh, I wish I got to see them more.

But I’m grateful for social media so I can cheer them on from afar — I celebrate their wins, and I smile real big as they pass a new milestone in life. Even if we haven’t seen or talked to each other in years, they’re with me. Always.

Currently counting down the years until we meet again…
