The Creativity Course

Andrea Brett amazes me every day! She has so many talents and incredible ideas flowing through her. A while ago, she told me she wanted to put together The Creativity Course to help creatives come out of their shells and share their work with others. And she did just that!

Over the last seven weeks, Andrea has been teaching The Creativity Course in their basement and via Zoom. She researched and put together all of the coursework that was covered in the class. She invested so much time in creating this course but also in each of her students, making sure she was doing all she could in helping them reach their full potential.

I was one of the fortunate ones to be able to participate in this first round of the course and I loved it! We all chose one project we wanted to focus on over the seven weeks. And I came out of it with five others that I also want to work on in the future! (Keep reading for a glimpse at my project list!) The more I worked on my projects, the more ideas I was getting!

Last night we did a "show and tell" for everyone to present their projects. We had people perform original songs, I read part of my novel (EEP!), someone showed pictures they created for a coloring book, we had others show videos they had created, someone brought a quilt they had put together... There was a wide array of creativity displayed and everyone was cheering each other on and supporting each other in the process! It was so fun to see everyone's hard work!

I highly recommend this to any creative minds that want to pursue some creative endeavor but don't know where to start, need some inspiration, or want some motivation to share their work with others. Andrea will be starting another round in a few weeks so let me know if you or someone you know would be interested!

She is starting an Instagram account too so follow along there! @thecreativitycourseoffical

Sooooo about my project —

I started writing a novel… A NOVEL! I’m freaking out! I’ve had this idea for a mystery series for a while and this was the perfect time for me to put the pen to paper. I came up with about a fourth of the book in those seven weeks. I wish I would have done more but I also work a full time job so between that and other obligations, I’m satisfied with my progress!

I also started to put work into this website that I’ve been dreaming about forever. I’ve been doing a blog off and on for years but intend to do it more consistently. And I wanted a place to display my work, a portfolio of sorts. I have high hopes for this site in the future so stay tuned!

My projects that I look forward to working on — I’m posting them here so I’m held accountable:

  1. Mystery Novel

  2. Teen Rom Com Novel

  3. Crochet

  4. Handmade Cards

  5. Bullet Journaling

  6. Blogging

  7. Web Design

I never really thought of myself as that creative of a person. I can’t come up with bedtime stories off the cuff. I’ve attempted songwriting but I’m not great at it. I cannot draw, nor can I paint. I don’t upcycle things that are laying around my house. But though I thought I wasn’t creative, I came to find that a lot of things that I do and enjoy in my every day life are actually quite creative. I do work in the music business after all, doing marketing! And I spend my nights relaxing with a ball of yarn and crochet hook in hand.

Pursue whatever your heart desires. Get creative! Surround yourself with other creative minds. Find a space for your creativity to flow. If you have a creative idea in your body, just do it and more creative ideas will come to you! As Maya Angelou said, “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”

If this class taught me anything it’s this: Your work deserves to be seen, and you might just be more creative than you think!
